OVERCOME SHYNESS: One truth is that none of us are born with social skills. By learning new skills and adopting a different outlook you can overcome shyness. Shyness is a learned behavior that needs changing. Being shy is often characterized by feeling awkward, embarrassed, or nervous in conversation. Regardless of the reason for your shyness, you can learn to embrace your authentic self. Break out of your shell to build connections with others confidently. With a little bit of observation, reflection and practice you can replace your shy social habits with self-assured social skills. The ability to communicate effectively plays a large role in resolving conflicts and preventing potential ones from arising.



Effective communication fosters trust with others. Your ability to listen carefully and embrace different types of views helps others trust that you are making optimal decisions for everyone in the group. But some of us do feel shy. There is nothing to feel ashamed about. Whether small or big do not feel insecure to share your inputs. Always involve yourself in a fun talk though its not necessary to speak. Do not think your views are not valuable. Try to chit chat with close friends to overcome the fear of speaking which will help you to tackle insecurity. Always be authentic and real. Do not try to imitate or try and copy to be like someone else. You do not have to be liked by everyone and be perfect. Its okay to make mistakes. Everyone does, it is a part of human nature. You should always value other’s feelings. Initially learn to interact with people it will help you to be comfortable with the society. Ask them a question and let them speak about themselves as this is a question where everyone answers without hesitation. Your answer to the question should not be a yes or no, but a long answer. Listen effectively while they are speaking. Respond to them by smiling while they are speaking it helps in building trust among people around you. Always boost your own confidence by speaking positively to yourself. Confidence overcomes fear. Lack of confidence can lead to paralysis from fear. To succeed you need the confidence to face and overcome your fear. One important key to success is self-confidence. And an important key to self-confidence is preparation. Before your speech prepare yourself by doing some warmup exercises. Prepare yourself mentally. Calm your mind. always stay hydrated have sips of water to prevent disturbances with your throat while speaking. Always be focused on the topic and your objective. Concentrate on the topic you have picked up. Do not think what others feel about you. Your body language is very important. Always make eye contact. Making eye contact throughout will make you feel awkward at first, but you will come across as more authoritative and in command. Networking is a great way to help build confidence over time. The habit of giving your point of view or making suggestions will really help and follow you back to the office among your colleagues. Do not cross your legs or your arms tightly. Avoid checking your phone when you want to feel confident and again try to relax and be expansive. Be proud of your performance and never be depressed when you make mistakes. You will learn from them and never repeat them again. Always learn from your failures and move on. While giving your first speech you will be uncomfortable, being not a social person. Do rehearsals in advance in front of the mirror. Try to remember the key points of your concept it will make it easier to present a speech. Keep on practicing. Spend a few days rehearsing before taking your presentation public. When it comes to communication skills, practice really does make it perfect. Before the big day your rehearsals will make you more confident once you stand in front of the room. Try to manage your emotions when you feel overwhelmed by your emotions. Take a deep breath and have a sip of water. Acknowledge and label your feelings. Join a social group to overcome fear and to build confidence while speaking. It could even be your family members, close friends, or colleagues. When you are asked to participate in meetings do not melt into the wall. Always offer your opinion. For shy people a common tendency is that they think their perspective are not valuable. But that’s not the case. You wouldn’t be asked to participate if the others were not interested in your point of view. Set small goals for yourself to ease yourself outside of your comfort zone. Each time you succeed and successfully meet your goals you will gradually overcome your shyness and your confidence will grow. Until one day you will notice you are not shy at work anymore. If you are an introvert, initially it would be difficult to overcome but gradually following the skills in overcoming your shyness will pay off and one day you will wonder why this was ever a worry in the first place!!!! Shyness is not a personality trait, but it is confused with introversion, which is a describable trait. Shyness is learned behavior stemming from negative life experiences, low self-esteem, or overprotective or shy parents. Etiquette, while allowing the individual traits to remain intact, also discourage the behaviors associated with being shy. To show kindness and consideration, human interaction must take place. This is the reason that practicing etiquette skills can help you overcome your wallflower tendencies. Thankfully socializing is a skill. Just like learning a new sport you can practice overcoming shyness in your daily life. Changing social habits is not easy, but it is a rewarding journey that gets easier with time. When you take action that puts consideration of others as a top priority, the snowballing effect of feeling good about yourself is freeing. Don’t wait until everything is right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what? Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more confident, and more and more successful!!!!!
